Contract Negotiations

Jeff’s legal background, business background, and creativity in deal making will ensure you make the very most out of your basketball career. With the Mad Ants, he negotiated hundreds of contracts, including one of the first jersey sponsorship deals and large deals with national sponsors like State Farm and the U.S. Army. Jeff also negotiated major reforms for the NBA D-League on behalf of the D-League owners, including fundamentally changing the league’s economic structure and the league’s basketball operations, as well as negotiating profit-sharing between the teams and the NBA. These changes were a boon for all teams and led to unprecedented growth in the D-League. Finally, Jeff negotiated and structured the landmark sale of the Mad Ants to the Indiana Pacers.

Legal Assistance

Potter Sports Group’s legal team is led by Jeff’s wife, Julie Potter. Julie graduated first in her class at Harvard Law School and then went on to a successful career as a litigator for Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago. She left the firm to help Jeff start the Mad Ants, where she served as the team’s general counsel. Indeed, the access you will have to this level of legal expertise in an agency is unprecedented.

One thing I can say about JP is his word is his bond. I played for him for five years and worked as a coach for him for two. He always keeps his word and is totally honest with you, even if it something you do not necessarily want to hear. That’s hard to find in this business. He has helped me become the man I am today.
